Hedgehog House |
| With a
diet of slugs, beetles and caterpillars, hedgehogs are true
friends of the gardener and as their numbers decline, they
need a safe home for shelter, for hibernation and for the
birth and rearing of young hoglets. |
| If you
can find a sheltered quiet corner of the garden here is a
simple hedgehog house for their day to day activities to give
them the protection they need. If possible, site it against a
wall or fence with the entrance facing south to keep out the
chill winter winds. In autumn cover it with plastic and a
layer of fallen leaves and they could be encouraged to become
permanent residents. |
| A bag of
sawdust is supplied to scatter over the interior floor of the
house to protect their delicate feet and if some hay is left
close by they will carry it inside for bedding. |

Chapelwood Hedgehog House |
| Help
prevent the decline of Britain’s Hedgehogs with this
sheltering Hedgehog House that is made from FSC Pine. The
doorway is just big enough for our prickly friends and will
not allow predatory badgers, foxes, cats or dogs in. You would
be providing a cosy and safe retreat for a hibernating hedgy
and possibly some youngsters. They should repay the favour by
eating your slugs in the Spring. |

Hedgehog Habitat |
| Constructed
from durable FSC timber, Alder predominantly, gives this
strength and longevity while the roof is double skinned for
insulation and weather protection. The raised timber floor
keeps damp out whilst the specially constructed internal
tunnel allows the hedgehog in but keeps predators out. There
is also a removable roof for annual cleaning and inspection of
sick or rescued hedgehogs. |
