The
show was first held in 1990 and created by Historic Royal
Palaces and Network Southeast. In 1992 Network Southeast
announced that it was withdrawing its subsidy, and the RHS
was the successful bidder to take the show over. The first
RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show was held in 1993, and
it has gone on to become the world’s largest flower show.
For the first Hampton Court Palace Shows, Network Southeast
laid on special trains from Waterloo, and the railway
porters all wore carnations in their hats.
The RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2018 will once again bring you all the fun and excitement of a spectacular summer festival.
New for 2018, we're introducing an initiative to celebrate internationally renowned and amazing people in horticulture, and we’re honoured that one of the greatest garden designers and nurserymen in the world is joining us at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
Our first Horticultural Hero is Piet
Oudolf, the influential Dutch garden designer and a leading figure of the New Perennial type of planting which uses bold drifts of herbaceous perennials and grasses for colourful, year-round interest. Piet will be creating a whimsical walk-through feature for your delight and enjoyment.
The beautiful border will sit opposite the Palace, using favourite plants such as Astilbe, Schizachyrium and Monarda - all coming together in a romantic display of colour and texture. The plants used in this brand-new feature will be recycled and relocated to RHS Garden Wisley after the show.
This action-packed show is a great inspiration
for gardeners of all abilities offering
environmental initiatives for the home and
garden.
